Pressure that fades at one fixture is a different problem from pressure that drops everywhere. This guide covers regulators, valves, buildup, and supply issues, and when a pressure problem needs a professional.
Pressure problems split into two kinds: one fixture, or the whole property.
Check the aerator or shower head for scale, and the fixture's own shutoff valve. A single weak fixture is rarely a supply problem.
A failing pressure regulator, a partially closed main valve, buildup in old piping, or a supply issue can all lower pressure everywhere. Surging or hammering pressure points to the regulator or trapped air and deserves attention before it damages fixtures.
Call when pressure drops suddenly, when it affects the whole property, or when you hear banging in the pipes. Sudden loss of water everywhere may mean a main-line problem.
